One of these days I’ll truck on down to Brown’s sea base and get my floatplane rating. A goose would be great, but a G-44 Widgeon probably most affordable of the two, being smaller and less thirsty on the water. First is getting that tail- wheel endorsement done after three tries and running out of money/time. Then the glider rating done after trying in college. Who knows...

I’ve realized That endorsements are another expensive thing to collect but with the added bonus of nothing to hand down to your children and no additional clutter around the house. I’ll be shooting for IFR and floatplane, probably in that order. Then maybe multi, but I’m not sure about that. A guy at the school just finished his checkride and the examiner killed one engine six times during the flight. Another pilot failed hers before they even got off the runway.

6 times? That’ s a bunch of crap. I had 2 on my ME ride. I can see the whole never takeoff thing because if the student really has no idea what they’ re doing its evident right away - take me back. There could be more to that story however.

What the OP said. 6 engine failures on a checkride is effing ridiculous. I had * one*, which is all you’d expect unless perhaps the DPE saw something they didn’t like.

As far as failing without getting airborne, I would think that the student did something really wrong. And it also makes me think the school didn’t prepare her well for the checkride.

Grumman made some really pretty flying boats.
